South London Mosaic 

This **Evening Mosaic Course** is a brief  introduction to mosaic, learn how to use mosaic tools and material for creating your piece of art. 

You will create a small piece of 15 x 15cm  mosaic using the Direct thechnique. The course includes all materials and wooden frame.

All  designs are already  provided by the tutor. If you wish to bring your own design it will need to be agreed with the tutor in advance.

Course contents: 

- Introduction to the course and the techniques;

- Selection  of design and  materials;

- How to transfer / draw an image to prepare the creation of 
 a mosaic;

- How to cut and shape tiles to create your own mosaic

- Direct method : gluing your tessera directly onto the wooden support;

- How to use mosaic tools;

- How to create a mosaic using Andamento techniques.

- Complete and grout your mosaic.

Me and my mum had a great day at Giulia's lovely studio! Giulia was very welcoming and knowledgable. All materials were laid out and ready to go and there was a great selection of tiles and colours to choose from. Everything was explained clearly and the time flew bye as we saw our work come together piece by piece.The best moment is right at the end, grouting done and you're cleaning the tiles, the whole thing comes to life and the colours pop!

A great first time experience. Challenging, but learnt a lot from Guilia and in a studio surrounded by some of her inspiring work and sample pieces. You don't have to slavishly follow the Adamento when time is limited. In my case, pleasure can be taken from a bit of freestyling (with Giulia's guidance) which can still produce a worthwhile piece of work. This one day workshop has made me think it would be a wonderful hobby to pursue.

The half day workshop was fantastic! Giulia gave us a brief introduction to mosaics and the tools and materials we could use. There was plenty of colours of tiles (both ceramic and glass) to chose from, and the templates of the designs she prepared in advance made it very easy to make a start. Having made a coaster in 4 hours as a complete beginner was very fulfiling. She was very helpful throughout, being hands-on when we had any difficulties, but otherwise gave us space to make the mosaic the way we wanted. I'd highly recommend it.

We loved our class at South London Mosaic. The equipment was good quality, the studio space was cute and cosy, the teacher was very experienced and helped us when needed. Our only complaint was that we felt rushed to finish our mosaic projects quickly. We booked onto a 4 hour class and after 2.5 hours the teacher made a few comments that made us feel like she wanted us to hurry up and leave. We would’ve preferred to stay the full 4 hours and perhaps have time to make a second mosaic project!

One Day Indirect Method Mosaic Workshop

Giulia is hugely knowledgable and experienced, a real expert in her field who is able to transmit her passion for the craft and the range of  techniques clearly and with great enthusiasm. 
Her 
beautiful studio is well-equipped with everything you need to make your own piece of mosaic.  Time really flew by as we drew out our designs, learned how to cut and arrange tiles and then mix concrete to assemble the final framed work. I particularly loved selecting the colours of beautiful tiles for my design, and seeing the 'big reveal' as the piece is refined and completed. Giulia is really encouraging and was on hand to help with the inevitable challenges that arise when learning new skills. 

I've always admired mosaic- from Roman to Victorian examples, so it was fascinating to hear about how they are made and gain insight into the skills of the mosaicist. I was extremely  proud to bring home my finished work and explain all the techniques i had learned in just one day.

Giulia was really supportive and encouraging in all stages of the course, and offered extra help when needed. Whilst we were cutting and laying out tiles, Giulia was telling us all about

Interesting to know the difference between indirect and direct techniques. Also, it was fun to see how working with glass squares for the mosaic was tricker than the mattes square ones.
Giulia was lovely and welcoming. She was great in giving advice as you worked on your piece. She was really informative and very accommodating. It was great to see her working on pieces whilst we worked. Provided tea/coffee/water and biscuits.
The workshop was a lovely environment to work in. 
She also took pictures of us whilst we worked throughout the day- which was wonderful as we got pictures to remember the day along with the mosaic!
